MySpace launches 'Hulu' for music videos

Category:

MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta made several announcements today at the Web 2.0 Summit in hopes of re-energizing MySpace and turning the social network into a media and music monster.

The social network has launched "MySpace Music Videos," a searchable collection of music videos with a Hulu like feel. It will offer users the most comprehensiveonline collections of music videos available anywhere, creating an always-on sort-of MTV for the Web 2.0 generation. The catalogue includes fully licensed music video content from all of the company`s major and independent label partners. The site is similar to Hulu, though a main difference is that MySpace Music Videos do not expire.

The site offers MySpace users many features when it comes to watching music videos. Users can receive music video recommendations based on what their friends are watching as well as browse an A-Z video search for easy discovery and sharing.

Along with MySpace Music Videos, MySpace introduced the new MySpace Artist Dashboard in beta. It's a free product that offers analytics for bands and artists that operate MySpace profiles so that they can get details on who is listening and interacting with them through MySpace.

Both MySpace Music and the MySpace Artist Dashboard incorporate the iLike feature.

As a final announcement, MySpace users will be able to purchase and download music from both iTunes and Amazon MP3 directly through MySpace Music.
